Alvin Soprano, the talented filmmaker and voice actress, has made a sensational return to YouTube after a three-year break.
Rated 5.9 on IMDb, “Goodbye Mommy” showcases Alvin’s multifaceted talents. Not only did she write, direct, and produce the film, but she also voiced the character of the mother, adding a personal touch to the project. The film’s editing was a collaborative effort with Matthew James Gordon, while the sound design and music were masterfully crafted by Jakob William Chambers, adding an extra layer of eerie atmosphere to the production.
“Goodbye Mommy” represents a shift from Alvin’s earlier works, which were longer and utilized GTA V and Blender. This new short film was created using The Sims 4, with additional scenes seamlessly integrated using Blender. The combination of these two media is executed so smoothly that it becomes difficult to distinguish between them.
To enhance the film’s unsettling vibe, Alvin applied a VHS effect to the digital footage, lending it a nostalgic, retro feel. Set in the 90s, the film’s environment features period-specific furniture and electronics, contributing to its eerie and immersive atmosphere.
The story begins on a stormy night with young Lucy, seemingly home alone, playing with her My Little Pony toy. The power goes out, and she hears a loud thud, prompting her to call for her dad. As she checks if it was him, she turns to see the front door open, with a woman’s silhouette illuminated by a bright light. Realizing it’s her mother, Lucy calls out to her. The beaming light stops abruptly, and her mother collapses, unable to cross over to the other side.
In a spine-chilling sequence, Lucy’s mother, with a body twitching as if all her bones are broken, starts walking towards her. Each step causes the power to flicker on and off, bringing her closer to Lucy. When she finally stands in front of Lucy, she says, “Mommy’s back, Lucy,” in a disturbing, demonic voice. Lucy, however, refuses to believe it’s her mother, declaring, “She’s no ugly ass demon like you.”
After a tense confrontation, the power goes out again. When it returns, the woman’s eyes are closed, her face down, breathing heavily. She then opens her eyes and calls out Lucy’s name in a surprised manner, as if regaining control of her possessed body. Her eyes shut once more, and her face falls. When the power returns, Lucy anxiously calls out for her mother. Her mother looks up and screams “RUN!” in a demonic shriek, prompting Lucy to flee.
The film reaches its climax with a shocking jumpscare that leaves viewers on the edge of their seats, before fading to black and rolling the credits.
Alvin Soprano’s “Goodbye Mommy” marks a refreshing and thrilling comeback to YouTube, demonstrating her growth as a filmmaker and storyteller. Her ability to seamlessly blend different media and deliver a compelling narrative has set a new standard for her future projects. Fans are eagerly anticipating what Alvin will create next on her rejuvenated channel.
